This is not your average photo session. Documentary family photography focuses on authentically telling the story of your family, as you are today. At your session, I will spend two-four hours (depending on the package you choose) with your family capturing unposed, meaningful, messy, and hilarious moments of the people you love.
Your documentary family session will capture a small slice of what life is like for your family right now. Whether we document your bedtime routine, preparing and eating a family meal, or playing and relaxing in your backyard, you will be left with a new family heirloom, a press printed book of images that tells your family’s story.
What makes a documentary family photography session different?
It is about anticipating moments rather than orchestrating them.
It is unposed and unscripted. I will not ask you to look at the camera and smile. I will capture real belly laughs as they happen.
Your family does not have to match. I always tell families to wear clothes they are comfortable in.
There is no pretending. These are real moments, real life, as it happens. The images are not “perfect,” but they will perfectly capture you, your children and even extended family enjoying time together.
What’s Possible When We Work Together
I have always thought real life is more interesting than anything I could ever set up. I believe in capturing you and your loved ones now, as you are, unposed. I have over 15 years of experience as a documentary photographer. I have mastered the art of capturing honest expressions and moments.
My photos will remind you of how it felt to be in that moment instead of what it looked like.
If you’ve never had a documentary family photography session before - It’s going to be waaaay easier and more fun than you probably expect! We will work together to plan some of your family’s favorite things to do together. Don’t worry too much about WHAT you are doing, just focus on slowing down and spending uninterrupted quality time together.
It’s about showing what your family FEELS like, not what it LOOKS like. It’s about capturing the reality of your life right now, so you never forget the hilarious, unique, and endearing personalities that make your family shine.
Every session is unique and tailored to fit each family. No two sessions are ever the same. It can be as simple as cooking and sharing a meal together or running through the sprinkler in your backyard. It can also include a family event, like your child’s first birthday or a gender reveal party for your baby.
