Legacy Films: What they are and why you need one

My grandmother is Siberian Yupik. She grew up on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. When I was a child, she would tell me stories of growing up on the island. She passed away quite awhile ago, but I can still hear her voice teaching me how to say “I love you” and “good morning” in Yupik language.

I would give anything to have video of her telling her stories, to pass down her life and legacy to my children, who never had the opportunity to meet her. This is what a Legacy Film is…it celebrates the life of a parent or grandparent and preserves the memory of them and their story while they are still here.

A Legacy Film can be just an interview. It can also be an interview with a short 5 minute film that highlight’s their love story. It can include personal photos or video, or a love letter voiceover that you record for them.

A Legacy Film can also include grandparents/parents passing down a tradition to their grandchildren/children or just spending a lazy Saturday together.

We are not guaranteed tomorrow. Today isn’t forever, but your memories can be.
